Student Membership
infoTech Niagara believes in nurturing the future IT workforce in Western New York. As professionals in an industry so focused on continuous learning and collaboration, it is our responsibility to provide opportunities to our up-and-coming future professionals so that when career opportunities because available in our organizations, our local candidate pool is strong and capable.
Why should I join?
As a student member of infoTech Niagara, you will have the opportunity to:
- Attend educational seminars
- Begin to build your personal network of contacts
- Take advantage of company tours and shadowing opportunities
- Receive industry-specific information in a weekly e-letter
- Participate in focused usergroups
- Use the ITN membership as a resource for your on-campus student organization
Do I qualify to be a student member?
Be enrolled as a college-level student, in any discipline, not necessarily in a
technical discipline. Contact your ITN Academic Champion to learn more specifics.
How do I become a member?
First, contact your ITN Academic Champion to learn about the organization.
Next, complete the online membership application form at
www.infoTechNiagara.org/join
and follow the payment options.
How long does my membership last?
For one year upon receiving payment. Example: If we
receive your payment on January 16, 2007 you will be a member until the
following year on January 15, 2008.
How much does membership cost?
Annual dues are $25 per student member. However, check with your ITN Academic
Champion first to see if there are “student membership specials”
for your school.
Will I have to pay for anything else once I pay my membership dues?
Most professional development seminars will cost $15 each for students. These sessions
include refreshments (often a full meal) and are considerably less cost than the
professional members. Occasionally, an event will be free or may be
more, depending on the initial cost to regular members. Students will always get
a reduced rate.
Is the student membership limited to technology majors?
No! All majors are welcome and will benefit from our events. Not all
events are technology-focused. In fact, infoTech Niagara collaborates with four other
professional organizations in Western New York, a collaborative called the
Buffalo Niagara Professional Alliance. ITN Student Members are
invited to attend the events of these other organizations at reduced prices as well.
Members of the Buffalo Niagara Professional Alliance are:
- American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), The Association for Operations Management
- InfoTech Niagara (ITN)
- National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM), an affiliate of the Institute for Supply Management
- Buffalo Niagara Human Resource Association (BNHRA) an affiliate chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management
- Western New York chapters of the American Society for Quality (ASQ)
I am a freshman. Should I become a member?
Yes! The more students are involved while they are in school, the
better off they will be when they are finished. The only requirement on student
membership is that the student be enrolled in classes. Learning from industry
professionals gives students a chance to ask questions about future careers/organizations/
education so that they make informed career choices.
Who do I contact at my school?
Each of the schools who have a relationship with infoTech Niagara have identified at
least one person who you can go to with questions, called an ITN Academic Champion. If
you belong to a student club, consider meeting with this person to strategize on how to
collaborate with ITN as a group.
